Before any lumber gets hauled in or equipment crosses over, the site has to be safe. That was the starting point here. The stream crossing bridge on this property had old, rotten decking that had no business holding the weight of a serious rebuild operation. So before anything else happened, we pulled it all out and started fresh.

Ripping out deteriorated decking sounds straightforward, but there's real work involved. You have to strip everything down to the stringers, assess what you're dealing with underneath, and make sure the structure is solid enough to build on. The pile of busted-up old boards pulled from this crossing tells the story - this thing was well past its service life.

New decking went in clean and tight across the full width of the crossing. The difference between the old grey, punky boards and the fresh lumber is night and day. A bridge like this needs to handle the weight of loaded trucks, heavy equipment, and material deliveries without flexing or failing. Getting that foundation right is what protects everyone on site throughout the rest of the job.

This is the kind of work that doesn't always get attention, but it matters as much as anything else we'll do on this property. Barn repurposing and outbuilding conversion projects involve moving a lot of material - and none of that happens efficiently if your site access is compromised. Step one done. More to come.
